NMCPLS is now overdue fine free!! This exciting announcement includes libraries in Elwood, Frankton and Summitville. Additionally, thousands of Library accounts no longer have unpaid overdue fees. Log into your account and check it out or come to your library to find out the status and get a new Library card!
Why did NMCPLS choose to eliminate overdue fines?
The vision of NMCPLS is to provide accessible materials, services and programming that promotes a community of creativity, exploration, curiosity and cultivates lifelong learning. Overdue fines are a significant barrier to reaching these goals. Eliminating that barrier opens doors to everyone in our communities to connect and engage with all the library offers.
What does this mean for our patrons?
All books, DVDs, magazines and audiobooks will not accrue a 25 cent overdue fee for each day past the due date. If the item becomes 28 days overdue, the item will be marked as lost and the cost of the item will be assessed to the patron’s account plus a $3 processing fee. If items are returned in good condition and can be added back to the collection, these fees will be waived. Hotspots are not included.
It’s good for our community.
Our community is stronger and healthier when all people have access to the programs, services, and materials they need to pursue their educational, career, family, and life goals regardless of their ability to pay for them. We hope this will encourage prior users to come back to the library and attract new users to experience our offerings.
